If your engine comes equipped with balance shafts, is there anything that allows you to not run them? Such as simply not installing the belt or removing them entirely.

It would really help to get the spare tire "tub" out of the trunk area. It doesn't sound like the rules really allow this, or at least it would be a stretch. It would really help things out when working on these cars, though. I believe PCA allows this mod. Any views on this are welcome.
