    Engine Rebuild Practices

I'm ready to start my first rotary rebuild, and first ITS rebuild. In reading the GCR, I see open apex seals and springs, gaskets, and balancing/blueprinting allowed. I don't see much else that can be non-stock, but maybe I've missed something. [list] * Competition bearings? * Competition seals...

    Any 2nd Gen ECU Mods?

I know the rev limiter needs to be dealt with, but does anybody use an aftermarket ECU or any other kind of ECU mods? I dynoed my car this week, and the A/F mixture is all over the place (always lean). Seems like just boosting the fuel pressure will move the curve, but not change the shape much...

    RS-7 HP

OK, I give up. I can't find this anywhere. I suppose everyone knows but me. Is the factory rated HP for RX-7s at the crank or at the wheels? [Edit] Yikes, sorry about the typo in the topic. Thanks, ------------------ Marty Doane ITS RX-7 #13 CenDiv WMR [This message has been edited by Eagle7...

    RX-7 Spindle Failures

A first gen snapped a spindle and lost the wheel Saturday at Grattan. Quite a mess. They were saying it's not an uncommon problem. I was impressed to see him back on the track Sunday and running very competively. Anybody else experience this? Is the 2nd gen spindle also prone to snapping...

    Mobil 1 Foam

86 RX-7 JY S4 engine. I tried Mobil 1 15W50, and am getting some beige colored foam in the filler tube. Didn't have any issues using Redline 30W. Is it something with the oil, the viscosity, or is it just a coincidence and I've got a water leak somewhere? Thanks, ------------------ Marty Doane...

Rear subframe bushing fit - 2nd gen

86 RX-7. My rear subframe was rattling around with about 1/4" movement, so I tore it all apart. It has delrin bushings installed by the prior owner. The bushings have about a 23 mm hole at the top, tapering down to about 18 mm at the bottom. Problem is that the "stud" that the bushing goes over...

    Ignition switch/steering lock assy removal?

My ignition switch is a real knee-knocker. I've killed the engine several times by bumping it. So now I've got a nice switch box sitting on the transmission tunnel with ACC, IGN, and START switches. Plugs into the wire harness where the ignition switch used to. So can I remove the ignition...

    Sway Bar Adjustment

Got a new adjustable front sway bar (Suspension Techniques). Now I've got to figure out how to use it. My motivation was to tame down the tail wagging, although I have to confess I'm still learning what a neutral setup feels like. Anyway, the bar has two positions for the links to the...

    Survey - Favorite CenDiv Tracks

I've only been to three tracks, and have to prioritize getting to the rest, so I thought I'd see what you guys think. Plus it'll probably make for some interesting dialog. Please list the CenDiv tracks you're familiar with in the order you prefer them, along with a short "why" if you'd like...

    2nd Gen Caliper Fitting

I'm converting from 4-lug to 5-lug hubs - small brakes to big brakes. Previous owner install SS lines for the 4-lug system. The brake line has a screw-in fitting with a copper washer - the threads extend about 5/8" into the caliper. The 4-piston caliper has a "nub" (is that a word?) in the brake...

    2nd Gen Rear Hub Removal

I'm trying to get the rear hubs off the parts car ('88). The hub has a "fork" at the top that attaches to the lower arm through a bushing. There is a sleeve through the hole in the hub that extends into the cavity of the bushing that prevents the hub from separating from the lower arm. The...

    Poll: RWD Welded vs. LSD

In talking to a Prod driver, I'm beginning to rethink my diff plans. He says more Prod drivers use welded diffs than LSD, and thinks that with the right driving technique they are faster. I know several IT drivers that use welded and seem satisfied with them. I know it's a pain around the...

    Petite LeMans Passing Penalty

At this event yesterday at Road Atlanta, a penalty was imposed on a Ferrari passing a Porsche. The Ferrari was right on the bumper of the Porsche approaching the turn, and pulled inside the Porsche at about the turn-in point. He overlapped him by about half a car length when they made contact as...

    Where Do The Stickers Go?

Test day was not kind to this newbie's tires. Flatspotted two of them. I think it's going to be quite a while before I get me some Hoosiers. Two shaved Kuhmos in pretty good shape are staying on the car. Two sticker Kuhmos are going on (the last tires I've got except for the dirt stockers)...

    Read the Label, Stupid

During the second on-track session of my drivers school last weekend, I started trailing a plume of smoke. Turned out one of the differential output shaft seals was leaking oil which was being thrown onto the exhaust pipe. Couldn't repair it, and thought I was going to wash out of the school. We...

    2nd Gen Shifter Spring

If you remove the shifter, you can see a spring around the control rod, I think attached to the control rod end. The #1 transmission (rebuilt by the previous owner) doesn't have it - the spares (stock) do. I just spent most of the evening tearing transmissions apart trying to get the spring out...
