    Flywheel horsepower...

Anybody have any idea how to figure out HP at the flywheel from a chassis dyno HP number? It is something to do with percentage drivetrain loss....Someone suggested it is about 15% - 20% loss from the flywheel to the rear wheels... I am sure there is a formula out there somewhere...

    Igniters

I am having a weird problem with my autometer tach. Sometimes up around 8000 it starts behaving eratically, bouncing around. Also been told I have a bit of a miss at high rpm as well, but not always. Someone said it might be the igniters. I have also been told they either work or they don't, no...

    Racing Seats

I have a Cobra seat in the car now, and after two days of racing on our home track, which has a lot of left turns, I am sore as hell, and have a good size bruise on my right side. I need a seat with better grip on my torso from under the armpits. The seat I have came with the car, so it is not...

    Rad Caps

I run a little too hot in the summer with my 12A streetport, and someone suggested I use a higher rated pressure cap. Currently I run a 13lb cap, and my buddy suggested I increase to 16lb. Any thoughts.... I don't want to screw anything up... ------------------ G. Brooke Carter Wheat Buckley...

    Radiators...any thoughts

I've been running a bit hot in the height of summer, using a stock short rad. Any thoughts on a better rad? We can use anything that will fit in the stock space. What's the scoop on 2 row vs 3 row? aluminum vs stock? I've also been looking at front dam to get more air into the rad, but...

    Vapour Lock...AAARRRGGGHHH

We were running in the heat today,in the nineties, and after both pit stops, my car pulled out of the pits, ran about half a mile, and STOPPED. (Streetported 12a) Vapour lock. I sat by trackside for two laps the first time, and for about a lap the second time before I got it started again...

    Help Please on brake ducts

After one race weekend, about 200 miles, and one serious test day, another 200 miles, I have cracked another rotor. We have to use stock rotors, and I have the bias pretty strong on the front to prevent rear "hop". I just don't know how to duct the air into the centre of the rotor. The wheel...

    Toyo RA1 failure

At the apex of a left -hander, under full power, my right front suddenly lost all air. Instantly, but I don't think it was a "blow-out" I continued on for a while, as I thought it was a pylon stuck in the front suspension, so I chewed up the outside tire wall pretty good. The tires had one...

    Plug wires...what's good??

So, after trying to figure out what plugs to use, I now am looking to upgrade the ignition wire set. What everybody using? I found a set by a company called Nology, makers of "Hotwires", for almost $500 Canadian a set, but supposed to be great. A little out of my $$$ range.. Thoughts...

    Spark Plugs..what's good???

I'm racing a 12a streetport, currently using NGK BR9EQ14, and BR8EQ14... Tried to get some non-resistor NGK B10EIX, and found them unavailable. Racing Beat guy said the non-resistor plug will give me a little more power... Who's using what? Any suggestions? In my view, speed is incremental...

    Noise reduction

We have been set a task by our local track. We need to come down from current 98 db to 92 db, at 3500 rpm, from 50 feet. Mine ran 102db in the last race, but I had a cracked pipe. In our class we currently run 12A street ports, Racing Beat headers, back to two 2 1/8" pipes to the rear of the...

    lousy brakes

My 1st gen brakes started to get really spongy, and I had to pump them before every turn back in July, so I replaced the master, put in new pads, bled them a million times, and hoped for the best. This weekend, no change, same lousy pedal, so I zoomed back to my parts car and pulled out the...

    83 / 84 trannys

I've race an early '84, with the disc rear brakes, and unknown year transmission. This weekend, I missed a lot of shifts, I think the syncro is shot, hard to find third sometimes, like stirring soup. I have an old parts car, an '83, with a decent tranny. I read that there is some slight...

    Blew engine...was it lean?

I lost my street ported 12A last race up here in Canada, the frozen North, and we aren't sure if we went lean. Toasted some bearings, lost power, lots of metal crap in the oil... I'm trying to figure it all out, with a new motor, by looking at the plugs. It was a new carb on the toasted engine...

    12A street port timing

This is about the last thing I have to do to be ready for the season. I have a streetported 12A, with the vacuum and mechanical advances disconnected. Where should I start with the timing? Running the stock Nikki carb and stock fuel pump. I know more about brain surgery than timing...

    Grose jets / float level

I just got my rebuilt carb back from Yaw, and I want to install Grose jets. Does any one know if I should set the float level the same as with the standard carb jets...ie: just a bit below half way in the window...???
