Not much, unless of course, you consider blatant disregard for the process outlined in the GCR, as something.
What happened to the requirement that a new National class had to run as a Regional class for two years, and make certain participation numbers? Looks like that's only the case for some, and not others. While T3 isn't going to get their own run group at the '06 Runoffs, they will be a National class, as of 12/1/05. Just how many T3 cars are there actually out there??? So much for the 2-year waiting period and the participation level requirement.

Well, let's see. They are making them a national class now to allow some people to qualify and attend runoffs. Where they will be running in the same race as SSB. Which is great since the two classes will be consolidated next year so this gives a direct comparison of what must be done to achieve parity. Oh and did you notice that two cars are already classed in both classes? So the end result will be consolidate classes for 07 runoffs, an additional class but no extra races in runoffs 06 and utterly no impact to IT. Honestly this is a long overdue move to bring touring and showroom stock (ain't nothing stock about a stock car) together. And a reasonable way to do it. I for one look forward to having to explain to people outside the club why we have Touring and SS and what the differences are.
But more importantly, why are we discussing this on an IT forum, or a prod car forum for that matter?

That's one of the problems w/ being a rules nerd, you play by the rules, even when they may not make sense, and may not facilitate things that need to be done. The T3 cars could run as T2 cars, at the Runoffs, this year. What's to be gained by giving them National status (as T3) this year? Gets a few people a few more trophies. They're going to get rolled in w/ SSB in '07 anyway. You can look at laptimes if they run w/ T2 cars just as easily as you can look at laptimes if they run w/ SSB cars. There's really nothing to be gained by throwing the rule book out the window.
Even though written in the GCR, the two year rule for national recognition went the way of the goony bird in the 80's when, out of nowhere, SSGT was formed. Since then we've had T1 with Camaros and Mustangs, T1 with Vipers and Vettes, Formula Mazdas, Sports Renaults, etc. My contention is, that if approached by the proper manufacturer, with the proper funds, and a convincing line, you can have a class developed and raced in the Runoffs within a year. <_<
