CELL, REG TANK OR MILK JUG

Your tired of my questions i know, but you guys are all the help i got.I have noticed cells and regular tanks used in top 5 cars, besides weight is it the safety factor.Thanks for all the help, mean it.
 
Ultimate safety would be a properly installed cell, but, the government requires the gas tanks of cars to take a hit without rupturing. I backed into the wall at NHIS and completly crushed the rear of my RX-7 and crushed the tank. Not one drop of fuel leaked. Alot of cell instilations are sub-par and are more dangerous than the stock tank instalation. One side note, I have been a volunteer Fireman for over 25 years and have gone to hundereds of car accidents and car fires. I have never seen a car fire caused by a gas tank rupture, or an explosion of a gas tank during a car fire. Not saying it dosen't happen, just that it's rare.
 
Just my opinion, but installing a cell is the last thing to do. It's for when there's nothing left to do on the rest of the car and you feel like you have to fabricate something or you'll go stir crazy from boredom.

One justification for a cell is if you run enduros. A stock tank/pickup will not get the last few gallons. It will starve out on corners with 3 gallons remaining so you have to pit more often. So with a stock tank you have OE capacity (12 gallons?) less 3 gallons = 9 usable. Buy a 16 gallon cell and you can go about 80% longer between stops.

Granted, a fuel accumulator or something similar will help the stock tank.
