Resistor in coolant sensor circuit now illegal?

I could just swear that I read this somewhere, and cannot remember where. Did I see something regarding wiring harnesses that means I can no longer install a resistor in line with the coolant temperature sensor to get the right A/F ratio?

My recollection is that when I read it, it sounded like I would have to modify the sensor side, rather than a nice simple resistor in the wire side of the plug. Double checking because this would be a pain in the a$$ to do, and I really can't come up with a good reason for such a change to have been made.

And after a quick read, it is not as big a deal as I was thinking. Just need to make a pigtail that plugs into the sensor on one side and the harness on the other, containing the resistor. It could be worse...

Don't know which is worse - my poor memory of this topic, or the fact that I am now offically having a conversation with myself

Believe it or not, for the last couple of years, using any kind of additional resistor has been ILLEGAL... When the CRB re-wrote the CPU rules a while back, they took out the clause that use to let you do the resistor thing (look in the 2003/2004 ITCS...)

The ITAC felt that this omission would make some previously legal cars illegal, and so we made the recommendation to add this wording back in...

It's a little tricky to get the wording right, and it appears that the CRB revised it some from our recommendation, but our intent was good!

Hopefully, by the time this actually goes to print, the wording will be all sorted out...

Yeah I totally missed that one. If competitors are able to swap the entire ecu for a more sophisticated unit, allowing them to perfect fueling among other things, while others can change carb jets to get correct fueling, while I could not install a $0.50 resistor to get correct fueling - that would be supremely stupid. I am glad to hear that it is getting worked out.
